James & Coffee

Last Sunday Paul & Colin took a group of young people from our D of E programme to help out with some marshalling at the White Horse Hardmoors races. They were blessed with a day of fantastic weather and did themselves and BCT proud.

Through BCT founder Paul Burgum’s love of running he offered to assist with marshalling duties at the race. This meant keeping hundreds of runners fed and watered as they passed through our checkpoint. The team were split up into pairs with numerous tasks to be carried out. These all meant the group had to interact with lots of people, which was very good for building confidence.

Party Checkpoint

First up Daniella & Ellie were given the very important job of recording all the runner’s numbers as they passed through the checkpoint. This was whilst Jim, Sophie & Morgan made sure all the drinks and snacks were prepared ready for the runners to collect and helping them fill up their water bottles on what was a very hot day.

Daniella & Ellie Marshalling

The special BCT touch was added by Claudia & Colin who got their guitars out and began playing as the runners passed by after just completing a very tough hill. This made for a very upbeat atmosphere at the checkpoint.

It was a very long day for the children with them arriving at 7am on the morning and volunteering till around 4pm on the afternoon, with all of them working hard to make sure every runner was looked after before the checkpoint was closed.

The final runner of the day was a very special man indeed still running at the ripe old age of 82, well done Joe!
