{"id":1512,"date":"2012-07-28T12:48:13","date_gmt":"2012-07-28T11:48:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bctaspire.org.uk\/?p=1512"},"modified":"2012-07-30T19:52:20","modified_gmt":"2012-07-30T18:52:20","slug":"fred-mollys-cafe-in-john-whitehead-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bctaspire.org.uk\/?p=1512","title":{"rendered":"Fred &#038; Molly\u2019s Caf\u00e9 in John Whitehead Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wednesday 25<sup>th<\/sup> July 2012 saw the official opening of Fred &amp; Molly\u2019s Caf\u00e9 in John Whitehead Park, Billingham; this was a brilliant start to the many activities set to run throughout the summer break as part of the Event\u2019s Academy programme.<\/p>\n<p>Executive Officer (Billingham Town Council) Dianne Rickaby said \u201c<em>We are absolutely delighted to be able to get\u00a0this facility back up and running. Since its closure in 2010, the Town Council has been looking at ways of being able\u00a0to bring the cafe \u2018back to life\u2019, we\u2019re excited that we have been given the opportunity\u00a0to provide a much needed facility for the residents of Billingham. We look forward to\u00a0working with BCT Aspire in offering both a cafe and hub for our community, bringing\u00a0activities for youngsters with lots of fun times over the summer break<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><em>Paul Burgum- \u201cWe all know that it is an incredibly\u00a0tough time at the moment and especially for young people &amp; children. We hope in\u00a0our small way to play a part in improving the lives of local people and improving our\u00a0community longer term. We are extremely thankful to both Billingham &amp; Stockton<\/em> <em>Council\u2019s for this opportunity. The caf\u00e9 will be a place full of atmosphere and where\u00a0everybody is always welcome\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The opening commenced at 5:30pm with live music from members of BCT Aspire\u2019s very own <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bctaspire.org.uk\/?page_id=1188\">Music Programme<\/a>,<\/strong> including great covers such as \u2018Love Machine\u2019 and \u2018Can\u2019t Stop\u2019.\u00a0 Various members of Billingham Town Council were present to mark the importance of the occasion, including Chris Bieda (Chairman) who spoke about the significance of the caf\u00e9s opening and gave thanks for the hard work carried out by the staff involved. This was soon followed by heart-warming words from BCT Aspire\u2019s Managing Director Paul Burgum, who explained what the Billingham community means to him and BCT Aspire as a whole. This was reflected in the phrase \u201c<em>It\u2019s not the buildings that make the town, but the people in it\u201d <\/em>which the crowd immediately responded to with a great round of applause<em>. <\/em>The Caf\u00e9 itself is named after Paul\u2019s grandparents, as he emotionally expressed how they were the foundation of his inspiration and determination to build BCT Aspire CIC into what it is today.<\/p>\n<p>Many members of the local public came along to celebrate the opening and were thoroughly impressed with the new look caf\u00e9 and the opportunities for community engagement.
