A FAMILY says it couldn\u2019t be more pleased with the extension built by a kind-hearted community for their disabled four-year-old boy.<\/p>\n

\"Cole<\/a>Billingham tot Cole Lancaster was diagnosed with cerebral palsy – a neurological condition that affects movement and co-ordination – shortly before his first birthday.<\/p>\n

Now an extension to make space for the four-year-old\u2019s specialist equipment has been completed on his home on Weardale Crescent, where he lives with parents Leanne and Andy.<\/p>\n

And his family couldn\u2019t be happier with finished building.<\/p>\n

Andy, 29, said: \u201cThis extension means a lot to us – there\u2019s a lot more space for Cole downstairs, which will make it easier for him.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

The extension was funded by BCT Aspire, a Community Interest Company which aims to support those in need in the area as well as improving the aspirations of youngsters in Teesside.<\/p>\n

And a whole host of Teesside builders, plumbers and electricians have donated materials and given up their time to the project.<\/p>\n

Andy said: \u201cWe\u2019d just like to thank everyone who has been involved in helping us.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s amazing how many people who are willing to help – there\u2019s so many kindhearted people out there.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The two-storey extension includes a downstairs bedroom and wetroom for Cole, who has just had botox in his legs to help reduce tightness in his muscles.<\/p>\n

A kitchen along with a play room for Cole, sister Tegan, seven, and brother, Kaden, two, who suffers from Shwachman\u2013Diamond Syndrome (SDS), a rare congenital condition, has also been added.<\/p>\n

Paul Burgum, director of BCT, a former joiner who helped with the build, said: \u201cLooking back now I don\u2019t know how we\u2019ve done it. At times I thought we had taken on too much.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cBut it\u2019s overwhelming what we\u2019ve achieved. It\u2019s fantastic that so many people have helped out, especially at the moment with the economy and the state of the construction business.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Paul, who was nominated for three different Gazette Community Champions awards, says his dad Michael, a site manager for Taylor Wimpey Homes used 30 years\u2019 worth of contacts to help ensure the build got finished.<\/p>\n

Paul, who raised money for the project by undertaking a 400-mile sponsored walk, said he would also like to thank: Paul Burr – bricklaying and general building, Tarmac, AW Cowen, Scott Bros, Archibolds of Stockton, Hoggarts Transport (Wilton), Cemex, Hathaway and Hoyle, Alexander Sinclair North-East Ltd, Taylor Wimpey North Yorkshire Ltd, WH Dunnes, Lorne Stewart, Energy Efficient Windows, WA Brownes and Duel Bound Electrical Ltd.<\/p>\n
