Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme (DofE)

BCT Aspire CIC is now a Directly Licensed Provider of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme. This means we can now offer the programme as part of our youth offer to local young people.  The sessions run on a Tuesday night 6.00 – 8.00 pm at the BCT Den for children in Year 9 at school onwards. The programme is a globally respected and carries weight with both employers and further education providers.

2016 Expeditions

To complete the programme children must undertake 1 hour of activity in the following areas for 3 months and 6 months for 1 section.

  • Physical – Taking part in a sports club, going to a gym, dance etc.
  • Skills – Learning an instrument, to dance, playing sport etc.
  • Volunteering – Helping a charity, supporting a sports, dance or drama group etc.
  • Expedition – A 2 day 1 night camp expedition with all training delivered by Paul Burgum and BCT Aspire.

The programme is ran by BCT founder Paul Burgum himself no stranger to the outdoor world having walked and camped across the length of Europe and ran ultra-marathons up to 160 miles in distance. Paul said ” I am extremely passionate about the outdoors and the benefits it can give to young people. DofE gives many young people their first true taste of independence and adventure. It’s amazing to see the confidence of people grow and friendships formed”.
