Team BCT – St Oswalds Ultra 100 Mile Relay

Team BCT - St Oswalds Ultra

BCT Aspire are proud to announce the beginning of a new fundraising team – Team BCT who will be pushing themselves to the limit to raise funds for our youth work activities.

Last year BCT founder Paul Burgum took part in the St Oswalds Ultra race in Northumberland. The race  spans some 100 miles and follows the amazing coastline from Holy Island past the famous Castles including Bamburgh before heading inland towards Rothbury and finally Chollerford.

This year on Saturday 26th September Paul will return, but this time with friends all running in the colours of BCT Aspire CIC. The team of runners will run different legs of the race. The team is made up of a totally mixed bunch of people and running experience. This will include runners who are taking part in their first race, to an absolute running legend in Tony Phoenix Morrison aka Tony the Fridge who has took on phenomenal endurance challenges with a 42kg fridge on his back.

The proceeds from the race will directly support BCT in it’s aim to start a new Duke of Edinburgh Awards group in Billingham. Linking into the experience of Paul and the team at BCT this will mean we can offer a programme that is widely accepted by employers, colleges and universities as a great mark of any young person.

To setup this course Paul has recently took time out from work to complete his outdoor leaders qualification and now all that remains is raising the money required for the license fee which is £500 and the necessary equipment for the expeditions.

BCT founder Paul Burgum said ” It is truly amazing to have this great group of guys both running with me and more importantly supporting the work of BCT. The race will be a test of not just endurance but also staying positive something that  represents everything we try to be week in week out with our youth work. I can’t thank these people enough and i’m looking forward to spending time on the road with them.”

BCT is asking all our friends and supporters to get behind this team in anyway they can. This may include simply sharing our links, sending messages of good luck to them. Maybe even jumping in the car to cheer them on at the various checkpoints along the route. The race will require some runners to be moving for over 24 hours so little gestures of support along the way can be very powerful.
